Scope and limitations

For PDFs whose text looks correct but copies or extracts incorrectly. Corrections apply throughout the document by font and source character code.

Supports local OCR glyph suggestions, subject to review before use; does not create text layers for scanned images. Encrypted files must be unlocked first, and fonts that cannot be reliably parsed are view-only. Text covered by ActualText may require additional processing.

Usage Steps

  1. Upload PDF

Read the fonts and characters used in the document. All processing takes place in your browser.

  2. Correct character mappings

Enter the correct text by comparing original glyphs, or review and adopt suggestions from local OCR. Changes to the same font and source code apply throughout the document.

  3. Download Repaired Version

Export a new PDF with corrected character mappings while preserving the original page drawing content.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will repairing the PDF change its appearance?

The tool updates the ToUnicode mappings used to copy and extract text, preserving the original font data, drawing codes and page content.

Can I repair scanned documents?

Scans containing only images do not have editable text mappings. This tool’s OCR only aids in recognizing existing font characters and does not generate a text layer for images.

Can one glyph map to multiple characters?

Sure. Correct text supports Unicode features like ligatures, combining characters, and emojis; all occurrences using the same font and source encoding will be updated simultaneously.
